Why is Principal offering this program?

We want to help people live their best life. We know that a healthy, active lifestyle is a big deal, and we're here to give a little extra motivation — because most days, we all need it.

Who can join?

Anyone can use the app. So, go ahead and invite others. It's a great way to engage in a little healthy competition between you and your family, friends or co-workers. However, only Principal life insurance customers will have full app access, including eligibility for a gift card upon account creation.

How do I get the app?

The first step is to access from your mobile phone. There, you'll see a link for the App Store and Google Play. Choose the app store you use for your phone, and the link will take you directly to the My Principal Lifestyle mobile app. The app store will provide you with a quick description of the app, and the opportunity to download. Just select the download/get option and enter your app store credentials. After the app has downloaded, you can select to open it from the app store or from your phone by opening the My Principal Lifestyle app on your phone.

What can I do with the My Principal Lifestyle app?

The My Principal Lifestyle app gives you a hassle-free way to view and manage your Principal life insurance policy. You can also connect a fitness tracking device and track your steps, set fitness goals, and see how you stack up against other users.

For life insurance customers of Principal, you need to be both the owner and the person covered by the policy (insured) to be able to view and manage your policy. You also need to be over age 18.

Why did I get this email invite to join My Principal Lifestyle? Is this spam?

If you have an individual life insurance policy with Principal and are both the owner and the person covered by the policy (the insured), we invited you to join My Principal Lifestyle. This an application for Principal life insurance customers and their friends and family. You can use the My Principal Lifestyle mobile app to view and make changes to the life insurance policy.

Do I need the mobile app to see my policy information?

You don’t - but we sure love My Principal Lifestyle because it offers great mobile capabilities. You can fingerprint/face authenticate; make payments; change your beneficiary and very quickly get to your policy details anytime you want.

If you prefer a web view, or you would like to see all of your financial services held with Principal in one place, you will want to use As soon as you are a policyholder with Principal, or hold a 401K, Annuity, Mutual Fund or other product, you can create an account on our website and view your information.

If you prefer your insurance information easily accessible through a mobile app that uses facial recognition or thumb print authentication for access, or if you like the capabilities provided through a mobile app in contrast to the web, you will want to download and use My Principal Lifestyle.

Please note, My Principal Lifestyle doesn’t display all our company’s products. We hope to eventually provide a wider view, but until we do, has the best holistic view.

I downloaded the app and created an account; how do I get a gift card for creating my account?

Principal life insurance customers who are both the owner and the person covered by the policy (insured) are eligible for a gift card upon download of the My Principal Lifestyle mobile app, along with account creation.

In order to claim your gift card you must complete your account creation by connecting your policy. To connect your policy, verify your identity so we can connect your policy information in the app. Open the My Principal Lifestyle app and click the “Verify my identity” pop up in the menu at the top left of the screen. Enter your information and answer a series of 3-4 questions to verify your identity. Once you have completed this, your policy will show in the app and you will be able to access the gift card feature.
